It’s always weird watching a movie that I’ve seen at various different stages of life. Friday the 13th is one of those classics that I’ve seen at various stages of my life and remember seeing it through different lenses.

Spoilers follow.

There was a time when the camp counselors at Crystal Lake were all older than me. There was a time when it was obvious who the nerd was. Now I wonder if the sporty chick (Brenda) might be a lesbian. The first time I saw this I didn’t even know lesbians existed. The weird waitress? Yeah, not weird, every small town had a woman who looked like that in 1980 who worked at the local truck stop cafe.

What a shock it used to be when the killer was revealed. Still creepy.

There’s no denying this movie is foundational. I also will periodically binge on it.
